Working as a Personal Assistant

PA, Carer, Care Worker: What’s The Difference?

A Personal Assistant (PA) role is often mistaken as being the same as a care worker but the roles are not the same.

The key difference is that a care worker is normally employed by a private/independent sector organisation or Local Authority, while a PA is usually employed by the person they are supporting (or family or relative).  PA's can also be self employed providing care to individuals and in this scenario they would be classed as a micro-enterprise.

A PA is responsible to the person they support who has usually directly employed them
